Minutes of the Regular Council Meeting
August 27, 2007
City Hall Annex Building, 186 Branham Way
Mayor Joetta Calhoun called the meeting to order at 6:30pm with the following council members present: Barry Armstrong, Lloyd Dooley, Greg Gentry, Gary Lawson, Emily Rucker and Brent Wheeler.
Also present were City Treasurer Peggy Brinkman, City Clerk Kenneth Stovall, Police Chief Rodney Hockenbury, City Attorney Anne McAfee and City Engineer Dave Derrick.
Greg Gentry led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Calhoun asked those present to take a moment to reflect according to their beliefs.
Minutes
Kenneth Stovall read the minutes of the August 13, 2007 regular council meeting. Brent Wheeler made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Barry Armstrong seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote with one abstention.
Treasurer’s Report
Peggy Brinkman presented the Treasurer’s report for July 2007. Barry Armstrong made a motion to approve the report as read. Brent Wheeler seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote.
Sign-In Sheet
Kara Alcorn of 315 Barbara Sue Lane spoke to the Council concerning the sewage smell coming from the pumping station located across the street from her house. Discussion followed. City Engineer Dave Derrick presented possible causes and stated that there are plans to update the pumping station within the next year. He will investigate and contact Utilities Superintendent Ronnie Fick about interim measures to reduce the odors.
Councilwoman Emily Rucker said that there is a similar problem at Federal Way and Keenland. Dave Derrick said that he would talk to Ronnie Fick about remedial measures to reduce sewage odors.
Mayor’s Report
1) Mayor Calhoun reported that the City has entered into a contract with Salmon Construction, Inc. for the construction of the East Sanders Lane Waterline Extension Project. Work will begin when the City gets an easement across the proposed Paddocks Subdivision.
2) Mayor Calhoun said that the water leak on Myrtle Bleemel’s property has been repaired.
3) The Mayor reported that the “Welcome to Mt. Washington” stone had been struck by a vehicle causing damage that required replacement and repair. She stated that the stone had been ordered and will be installed immediately upon receipt of the granite base.
4) Mayor Calhoun said that the audit of the City finances is about one week ahead of schedule. She commended City Treasurer Peggy Brinkman for her outstanding work.
5) The Mayor said that with school back in session the traffic on Highway 44 is extremely heavy in the morning at Bullitt East High School. She said that beginning Tuesday August 28, 2007 the City Police would provide an officer to direct traffic from 6:45am – 7:20am.
6) Mayor Calhoun said that Police Recruit Timothy Morris would graduate from the academy on August 31 and join the force immediately.
Council
Councilman Gary Lawson reminded everyone of the public information meeting to be held on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Pleasant Grove Elementary School. The meeting is to get input from the public about intersection improvements on Highway 44 at Bells Mill Road, Bogard/Loyd Lane and Armstrong/Fisher Lane.
Shot Dooley said that there should be a sign on Old Bardstown Road to indicate the Business Park. He said that the big one at the Police Station could be reinstalled.
City Attorney
Anne McAfee commended the Mt. Washington Police for assisting with a civil matter outside their normal duties.
She also asked that everyone keep Rita Barnes, an old and dear citizen of the community who is ill, in their thoughts.

Brent Wheeler made a motion to adjourn at 7:19pm. Emily Rucker seconded the motion. Motion carried.
