Minutes of the Regularly Scheduled Council Meeting

August 22, 2005

City Hall Annex Building, 186 Branham Way

 

Mayor Sullivan called the meeting to order at 6:30pm with the following Council members present:  Lloyd Dooley, Ralph Lutes, Joetta Calhoun, Sid Griffin and Larry Porter. 

 

Also present were City Clerk Christi Franklin, Utility Superintendent Ronnie Fick, City Treasurer Peggy Brinkman, City Engineer Dave Derrick and City Attorney Jim Winchell. 

 

Larry Porter gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Minutes

Christi Franklin read the minutes of the August 22, 2005 Council meeting.  Sid Griffin made a motion to accept the minutes of the August 22, 2005 meeting as corrected.  Joetta Calhoun seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote.

 

Treasurer’s Report     

Peggy Brinkman presented the Treasurer’s Report for July 2005.  Sid Griffin made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report for July 2005.  Lloyd Dooley seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote.

 

Ordinances

The Council held second reading of an ordinance relating to the licensing regulations for alcoholic beverage control licenses.  Sid Griffin made a motion to adopt the ordinance relating to licensing regulations for alcoholic beverage control licenses as read.  Larry Porter seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote.

 

Mayor’s Report

Mayor Sullivan discussed the animal control report and street sign repair report. 

 

He also reported the City opened the bids on the police station and he, Ronnie Fick and Chief Hockenbury are currently reviewing the bids.

 

Mayor Sullivan said the City was contacted by two businesses regarding property in the business park.

 

The parking lot at City Hall will be paved on Saturday.  Vehicles can park at the church.

 

He also updated the Council on the construction of the 600’ section of Landis Lane.

 

Report from Council

Joetta Calhoun said she will talk to Ronnie after the meeting about a speed limit sign down. Discussion followed.  She also asked for an update on Mr. Sampson and Mr. Phelps’ issues from the last Council meeting.  Mayor Sullivan and Dave Derrick updated the Council on Mr. Sampson’s drainage issue.  Jim Winchell reported the legal aspects of Mr. Phelps’ issue with Bullitt Fire Sprinklers.  Discussion followed.  Mayor Sullivan will take Sid and Joetta to the property and the issue will be discussed further at the next Council meeting.  Ms. Calhoun asked for an update on the Grant lift station project.  Ronnie said the contractor will be back on site next week.  Discussion followed. 

 

Sid Griffin asked if anyone has been citied with a violation of the noise ordinance.  Chief Hockenbury said several citations have been written.

 

Ronnie Fick reported that Fernwood Drive in Natures Cove will be closed beginning August 25th and will remain closed for two or three days.

 

Guests to Address the Council

Doris Owen asked where the barrel at the cemetery is.  Mayor Sullivan said the flowers in that barrel died.  She also suggested that the City honor the past mayor’s by placing their picture with their years of service on the wall at the annex.  Mayor Sullivan turned this over to the City Clerk.

 

Adjourn

Sid Griffin made a motion to adjourn at 7:03pm.  Joetta Calhoun seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote.
