Payment Extensions
If you received a late notice and you cannot make the payment prior to the cut off date, please contact the City Clerk. Once per quarter, a payment extension can be given by the City Clerk, for the past due amount, no questions asked. Payments will be due by the day before the next bill is due of the month in which the cut off is to take place. In order to receive a payment extension, you must contact the City Clerk prior to the cut off day.
Payment extensions will not be granted on cut off day. No exceptions.
If a payment extension is granted, and payment is not received by the agreed date for the full amount of the past due bill, the water will be cut off.
If you would like to request a payment extension, please contact the City Clerk at 538-4216 or via email at kstovall@cityofmtwashington.org
Water Service Cut Off
Although the City does not want to cut off water service to any household or business, if the bill is not paid, the City cannot continue to allow the customer to have service. Once the list is given to the utility employees indicating the addresses to be cut off, a $30 service fee will be added to the past due amount and must be paid before service can be reconnected.
If water has been disconnected for non payment, payment may be made by cash, money order, credit card or check (only if the check writer is present to run through as a debit).
After the past due amount and the service charge are paid in full, water will be restored the same day payment is received.
The City will restore water service after hours for an additional charge of $25.
If water service is cut off, and payment has not been made, the City will check each address that remains cut off to make sure that the water is still off. Please remember that breaking the lock and turning the water on yourself is illegal and considered tampering. If this occurs, a tampering fee will be added to the bill and must be paid prior to restoring water service.
