Building Permit and Building Inspection Procedures

 

 

 

Residential

 

The City performs inspections for the following:  Footer, Framing, Final, HVAC and Drainage.  Electrical is handled through Bullitt County Code Enforcement.

 

1.      Obtain a Building Permit – The following must be submitted to the City at the time of application for a building permit:

 

a)      Zoning Compliance Certificate from Bullitt County Planning and Zoning. 

 

b)      Survey of the property that includes the location of the dwelling on the property.  The survey must be signed, stamped and dated by a certified surveyor.

 

c)      Proof of general liability and workman’s compensation insurance from the builder.  If the builder does not have proof of insurance with them at the time of application, a proof of insurance form can be completed and signed by the builder. 

 

d)      Fees for the building permit and all inspections.

 

The building permit signed by the Building Inspector will be mailed to the applicant.    

 

2.   HVAC Permit – Prior to the Framing Inspection (see below), the builder must obtain a HVAC Permit from the City and pay all applicable fees (see the fee schedule).  The Builder receives one (1) copy of the permit, and the City retains two (2) copies.  For new construction, the HVAC inspection fee is included in the regular inspection fees and a Manual J: Residential Load Calculation, and a Manual D: Residential Duct Calculations are required at the time of application.  For new HVAC units in an existing dwelling, the inspection fee is $40.

 

3.      Inspections – The builder must call City Annex at 538-3771 to schedule the inspections. 

 

a)      First Inspection (Footer Inspection) - When the builder contacts the City to schedule a footer inspection, the inspection will be scheduled within 24 hours.  After 2:00pm, the inspection will be scheduled the following day. 

 

b)      Second Inspection (Framing) - After 2:00pm, the inspection will be scheduled for the next day.  The HVAC Inspection will also take place at this time.

 

c)      Third Inspection (Final and Drainage) - After 2:00pm, the inspection will be scheduled for the next day. The Building Inspector will give the builder a copy of the signed Compliance Inspection Form. After final drainage approval from the Building Inspector, the Administrative Assistant will send the drainage inspection letter.
